Nail surgery is a minor procedure designed to give long-term relief from ingrown or persistently painful nails. Under local anaesthetic, we remove the offending part (or, if indicated, the whole nail) in a controlled, sterile setting. The aim is to stop the nail edge from pressing into the skin and to reduce repeated infections. We'll explain the procedure, risks and benefits, expected healing timeline, footwear guidance, and how to look after the dressing at home. Follow-up is arranged if needed to monitor healing.
Surgery isn't always the first step. At your pre-assessment we'll confirm the diagnosis, rule out other causes of pain, discuss alternatives (e.g., conservative care or Onyfix), and check any medical factors that may affect treatment. If surgery is right for you, we'll schedule at the clinic that suits you best.
Booking note: Please book a Routine Podiatry appointment first for pre-assessment. Clinics: Werrington and Woodston, Peterborough.
